TARSANDS MOSQUE

In the midst of the deafening roar of capitalism in the oil capital of Canada, sits a quaint domed building in on Gordon Ave.
Built in 1989, Markaz Ul Islam has been in Fort McMurray longer than most residents.
The mosque is said to be the third most northernmost mosque in the world.
As workers from around the world continue to flock to northern Alberta, the mosque continues to expand.
Friday prayers have outgrown the mosque and are held in a school gymnasium.
Despite the diversity of cultural backgrounds - Lebanese, Somali, Pakistani, Egyptian and even Canadian -- the Muslim community has continued to grow in unity.
Today, over 5,000 Muslims are believed to reside in Fort McMurray.
